GULLIVER'S TRAVELS
(adapted from Jonathan Swift)

Old Gulliver is dragged onto the stage by his theatrically inclined son and made to read from his famous "Book of Travels". The son and his siblings then act out the story of their father's voyages to Lilliput and Brobdingnag. In the first journey Gulliver finds that his body has been captured by the armies of Lilliput and his heart by the Empress. Never mind that the Lilliputians are no more than four inches high! After stealing an entire fleet of ships and saving the palace from fire, Gulliver discovers a plot against his life and he must flee. As worse luck would have it Gulliver is then stranded in a land where he is no bigger than the thumb of the citizenry. And a gentle teen-aged giantess, Glumdalclitch, has fallen in love with him. Clever staging and wicked satire distinguish this most imaginative of tales. This adaptation was commissioned and performed by the Commonweal Theatre Company.
