THE WIZARD OF OZ

A Kabuki version adapted by Will Huddleston from the book by L. Frank Baum
Productions by:
California Theatre Center; Alaska Theatre of Youth; School and Student Conservatories
For children and adults -- 6 main characters and a chorus of children

The techniques of Kabuki and Bunraku Puppet theatres are used to bring to life L. Frank Baum's American classic. Hooded "invisible" figures called "Dreammakers" create special effects such as the witch's floating eye and Dorothy's flying bed, and manipulate Toto puppets. Simple to produce, this magical Wizard of Oz can be easily simplified for production on the elementary school level.

CAST: 6-7 principal performers, chorus of children TIME: One hour
SET: As simple as a platform and a few props
